Wallace State Men Win ACCC Tennis Championship; Gautier Named Player of the Year

MILLBROOK – Wallace State won the ACCC Men’s Tennis Tournament championship at 17 Springs in Millbrook, earning the conference title and advancing to the NJCAA National Tournament in Plano, Texas, scheduled for May 11-15.

In singles play, Wallace State won titles at No. 1, No. 5 and No. 6 singles.

At No. 1 singles, Angel Gautier defeated Coastal Alabama South’s representative 6-1, 6-2. Luka Uzelac won the No. 5 singles championship with a 7-5, 6-4 victory over Guyot. Tom Köpf captured the No. 6 singles title with a 6-0, 7-4 win over Yanez.

At No. 2 singles, Alexander Grube Anderson lost to Gimenez 6-4, 1-6, 7-5. Jean Badenhorst fell to Olagnon 7-6, 6-4 at No. 3 singles, while Francois Van Wyk lost to Velasco at No. 4 singles.

In doubles play, Wallace State won two of the three championship matches.

At No. 1 doubles, Gautier and Grube Anderson defeated Gimenez and Velasco of Coastal Alabama South. At No. 3 doubles, Köpf and Matias Vargas defeated Cordeau and Yanez 6-4, 6-3.

At No. 2 doubles, Badenhorst and Van Wyk lost to Guyot and Olagnon 7-6, 5-7, 6-2.

Following the tournament, Gautier was named ACCC Player of the Year.

Gautier and Grube Anderson earned first-team all-conference honors, while Köpf was named second-team all-conference.
