Juanita Childers, a devoted nurse, beloved community member, and woman of deep faith, passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of compassion, service, and love for others.

Originally from Bremen, Alabama, Juanita was raised with strong values rooted in family, kindness, and spiritual devotion. She answered the call to serve others through nursing, becoming a registered nurse and dedicating many faithful years to caring for patients throughout Cullman County, including her time at Cullman Regional Hospital. Her calming presence and skilled hands brought comfort to countless lives, and her colleagues knew her as someone they could always count on.

Juanita’s service extended far beyond hospital walls. She gave generously of her time through community outreach, volunteering with the Meals on Wheels program to provide meals and companionship to homebound individuals. She also dedicated herself to sitting with the elderly, offering a quiet strength and nurturing presence to those in their most vulnerable moments.

Her faith was the foundation of her life. Juanita dearly loved her Bible, drawing daily comfort and strength from its words. A lover of nature, she especially enjoyed watching birds, finding peace and joy in their presence—small, beautiful reminders of God’s creation.

In her later years, Juanita made her home in Five Forks, South Carolina, where she continued to live out her values of humility, faith, and compassion. Though she lived away from her Alabama roots, she remained forever connected to the community and people who shaped her. First and foremost she was a mother and loved spending time with her five grandchildren.

Juanita is survived by her children Kathy (Patrick) McCurdy, Jake (Katherine) Childers; grandchildren, Jillian McCurdy, Matthew McCurdy, Josh Childers, Jacob Childers, Joseph Childers; siblings, Betty Staffa, Sue Jackson, Helen Shelton, Charles (Evelyn) Easterwood; and 13 nieces and 9 nephews.

Juanita was preceded in death by her parents Amos Bernard Easterwood and Elsie Rena Easterwood.
