CULLMAN, Ala. – Dan McWhorter on Monday, May 19,announced his candidacy for Alabama House of Representatives District 12.

Election details

Gov. Kay Ivey set special election dates for Alabama House District 12. This seat was previously held by Rep. Corey Harbison, R-Good Hope, who resigned April 15, 2025.

The Special Primary Election for this seat will be Tuesday, July 15, 2025; the special primary runoff, if necessary, will be Tuesday, Aug. 12, 2025; and the special general election will be Tuesday, Oct.28, 2025.

Below is McWhorter’s campaign announcement, unedited and in full.

Dan McWhorter of Bremen, Alabama announced today that he will be running for state representative for the 12th District in Cullman County. Dan proudly started his company, Innovative Analytical Solutions LLC, over 11 years ago which has prospered under his ownership and hard work.

“I am proud and excited to announce my candidacy for the Republican nomination for State Representative. Fiscal management and strong leadership are crucial in the difficult economic times which lie ahead.”

My platform is as follows:

  1. A cap on all Cullman County Property taxes for Senior Citizens 65 or older.
  2. A clean (no other attachments) Lottery bill that will fund 2 years of college tuition for any high school graduate with a C average to a trade school, technical school or a 2-year junior college.
  3. Eliminate Daylight Savings Time. Alabama can fall back and not spring forward.
  4. No State taxes on overtime wages.
