CULLMAN, Ala. – The Cullman Community Band (CCB) is gearing up to begin its fall season on Monday, Sept. 9, and is looking for participants.
CCB is a community collective of musicians of all ages and abilities; the group comes together to perform concerts regularly and provide entertainment for many of the festivals and community events held locally throughout the year.
“Members range in age from late teens to around 80, sometimes even a bit older. Not only is there a wide range of ages, but also a wide range of ability levels,” shared CCB Director Garry Taylor. “There are several band directors and music teachers in the group but also folks from all walks of life who dusted off their instruments from high school and joined the band.”
There is no audition or member fee to participate in CCB, only the necessary time to attend rehearsals and performances. Interested musicians need only show up to the first rehearsal to secure their spots in the band.
“Our first rehearsal of this season is Monday, Sept. 9, at 6:30 p.m. in the Wallace State College band room,” smiled Taylor. “If you have experience playing a band instrument such as woodwind, brass or percussion, please consider joining the band.”
The band’s seasons mimic the schedules of local schools. Fall season performances will include Oktoberfest and a Christmas concert. The band will go on a short hiatus until mid-January, when its spring season begins. A spring concert and a performance at the Alabama Strawberry Festival will complete the season. CCB also throws an end-of-year picnic for musicians and their families.
CCB will hold its first rehearsal of the season on Monday, Sept. 9, at 6:30 p.m. in the Wallace State band room and continue each Monday evening at the same place and time.
