CULLMAN, Ala. – Kindergartners at Cullman City Primary School on Tuesday, May 21, presented “Lemonade!” a 20-minute musical for friends and family to mark the end of a notable year.

The early learners had the chance to try out their practiced stage presence and perform the classic “Lemonade!” in the school’s newly constructed gymnasium. In addition to displaying their talents on stage, they showcased adorable lemon-themed papier-mâché props crafted under the instruction of CCPS Art Teacher Christy Brock.

Directed by CCPS Music Teacher Tyler Skinner, the ensemble of 5- and 6-year-olds began the hard work of learning “Lemonade!” in January when school resumed after Christmas break.

“These students have worked very hard since about January. I am so proud of them; they have come such a long way this year and they’ve just been great,” gushed Skinner as he spoke to the packed gym before the performance began.

The songs included “Get your lemonade!,” “Recipe for Joy” and “The Worst Day All Day Long,” with students’ facial expressions matching the sweet and sour themes.

Most of the participating students had speaking roles. One by one, students recited short lines, emphasizing the hard work and dedication put forth by Skinner, the students and Kindergarten teachers.

Assistant Principal Brandee Sims recognized the lengthy practices and time invested by the students and Skinner.

“These students did so well, and we always appreciate Mr. Skinner,” she said. “He always does such an outstanding job.”
