HANCEVILLE, Ala. – The Hanceville City Council convened for its bimonthly meeting on Thursday, March 14. Key highlights of the meeting included planning for three significant upcoming events: the Hanceville Irish Festival, a free landfill pick-up week and the City of Hanceville yard sale weekend.

The council agreed that the Irish Festival, scheduled for March 16 from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. downtown, would follow the same parameters as the previous year. Additionally, the council approved waiving the vendor permit requirements for the event, facilitating a smoother process for participants.

Attention then turned to the yard sale weekend, with the council waiving permit requirements and setting the dates for April 19-20.

Following the yard sale weekend, the City will organize a citywide landfill pickup from April 22-25. The council approved this initiative, allowing residents to dispose of unwanted items free of charge. The City requests community members have their items ready for pickup by 6 a.m. on April 25.

The meeting concluded with a discussion on the community pool. After considering various options and the financial challenges associated with its operation, the council resolved to open the pool this summer, ensuring residents will once again have access to the community resource.

In other business, the council:

  • Held a public hearing related to Ordinance No. 2024-1 (Property Annexation/Zoning The Broadway Group / KME Development) – motioned and approved the tabling of the discussion until the March 28 council meeting
  • Motioned and approved Resolution No. 2024-2 (Revised ATRIP II ALDOT Agreement), changing the U.S. Highway 31/Alabama Highway 91 turn lane project from a right turn lane installation to a left, northbound install
  • Motioned and approved a three-year contract over the emergency notification system previously presented to the council.
  • Motioned and approved AirMedCare Evac for Hanceville Fire Department volunteers

The next Hanceville City Council meeting will be held Thursday, March 28, at Hanceville City Hall. The work session will begin at 5 p.m. with the meeting following at 5:30. The public is invited to attend.
