On Feb. 22, 2024, Cold Springs High School Family and Consumer Sciences classes took 25 students on a field trip to tour local Cullman venues.

In the Event Planning class, students learn about different types of venues and what it takes to put on an event, whether a birthday party, anniversary party, convention, conference or wedding. The students were able to see three different types of venues. They toured Loft 212, Stone Bridge Farms and the Stables at Juniper Farms. Each venue had a unique perspective.

The students learned from Loft 212 how to set up and plan for each event. They plan everything from weddings to parties, banquets and more. The co-owner said they enjoy the challenge of providing new designs and ideas each time they have an event. One of our students said they were impressed with how they set up one event but were already planning and preparing for the next. Loft 212 was very impressive and beautiful. It is excellent for photograph opportunities and is conveniently located in the middle of town.

Our next stop was at Stone Bridge Farms. The students enjoyed touring the many different buildings you can use for events. And, of course, the students took opportunities in the many locations for beautiful pictures. The students were able to ring the new bell at the wedding chapel, which was one of their favorite things of the day. The outside and inside venues are beautiful and tastefully decorated. When at Stone Bridge on Thursdays, you must eat at Sophia’s Buffet. The students enjoyed the buffet and the great atmosphere that was provided.

Our last stop was at the Stables at Juniper Farms. This is a unique venue where you can have your wedding in a beautiful converted equestrian stable that was once a horse arena or in the exotic bamboo forest that feels like you are in a fairy tale. We were also shown the guest house that you can use for receptions, bridal preparation and more. The students loved the guest house and made themselves feel at home.

Overall, this was a wonderful experience for our students here at Cold Springs to see what they have learned in class turn into real-world work situations. One of our students will be completing a STAR Event in Career Investigation for an Event Planner and could ask questions and get more insight into the career choice of event planning. There are so many more types of venues in Cullman, and I hope we can explore and learn more about these venues. Another venue has already contacted us to come and tour. We are blessed in Cullman to have so many options.
