University of the Cumberlands 

In recognition of academic performance, the Office of Academic Affairs at University of the Cumberlands has announced the students named to the Dean’s List for the fall 2023 semester. 

To be eligible for the Dean’s List, students must be enrolled in at least 12 credit hours (a full course load), maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.50 for the semester and be in good academic standing. 

Congratulations, Hunter Howell of Cullman, on making the Dean’s List for the fall 2023 semester! 

Jacksonville State University 

More than 500 students were awarded degrees as part of Jacksonville State University’s Fall 2023 commencement on Dec. 15, including:

  • Abigail Curtis of Cullman, BSE, Early Childhood Elementary Ed  
  • Rilee Henderson of Bremen, BSN, Nursing

Jacksonville State University honors high school students who have earned a 3.5 GPA or higher while completing dual enrollment courses at the university in Fall 2023. Local students include:

Mississippi College 

The Mississippi College Office of Academic Affairs releases the President’s List after the close of fall and spring semesters each academic year. To be eligible for the President’s List, a student must maintain a 4.0 grade point average, based on a 4.0 system. The student must take a full course load of at least 12 semester hours of undergraduate credit with all academic courses impacting their grade point average.  Local students included in the list include: 

  • Camilla Chambers of Cullman  
  • Jordan Moore of Crane Hill

Presbyterian College  

Caleb Roe of Arab was named to the Presbyterian College Dean’s List for Fall 2023. 

Roe was among nearly 300 students named to the list. 

This prestigious honor recognizes students who have achieved between a 3.3 and a 3.9-grade point average for a semester and is a testament to students’ dedication to academic excellence. 

Joshua Roe of Arab was named to the Presbyterian College President’s List for Fall 2023. 

Roe was among nearly 90 students students named to the semester’s President’s List. 

To qualify, students must earn a perfect 4.0 grade point average for the semester. 

University of Alabama 

Some 2,000 degrees were awarded during The University of Alabama’s fall 2023 commencement at Coleman Coliseum. A recent economic analysis found that a degree from The University of Alabama can pay more over time than investments in U.S. stock market indexes. The University provides numerous opportunities for service and growth through its educational, social and cultural experiences. 

Local students include:

A total of 13,950 students enrolled during Fall Semester 2023 at The University of Alabama were named to the Dean’s List with an academic record of 3.5 (or above) or the President’s List with an academic record of 4.0 (all A’s). 

The UA Dean’s and President’s Lists recognize full-time undergraduate students. The lists do not apply to graduate students or undergraduate students who take less than a full course load.

For Fall Semester 2023, 539 students were named to the UA Early College Director’s List by obtaining a 3.6 or higher GPA for the term. 

The Director’s List recognizes students enrolled in classes through the UA Early College program. UA Early College allows high school students to get a head start on their college courses. High school sophomores, juniors and seniors enrolled in UA Early College can choose from more than 80 different online and on-campus courses and earn up to 30 hours of college credit. 

The 2023 fall list includes the following local student: 

  • Dawson Simmons of Cullman attends Holly Pond High School. 

Mississippi State University 

More than 1,500 students are fall 2023 graduates of Mississippi State University, including the following local students:  

  • Leah Bowden, of Cullman, received a Bachelor of Business Adm Cum Laude from MSU’s College of Business. 
  • Elizabeth Tankersley, of Cullman, received a Bachelor of Fine Arts and Bachelor of Business Adm from MSU’s College of Architecture, Art and Design and College of Business, respectively. 

University of Mississippi (Ole Miss) 

Anna Hulsey, of Cullman, was named to the University of Mississippi’s Fall 2023 Honor Roll lists. 

Hulsey, majoring in Law Studies, was named to the Dean’s Honor Roll, which is reserved for students who earn a semester GPA of 3.50-3.74. 

In order to be eligible for honor roll designation, a student must have completed at least 12 graded hours for the semester and may not be on academic probation during the semester. 

The University of Mississippi announced students named to the Fall 2023 Honor Roll lists, including Chancellor’s Honor Roll, which is reserved for students who earn a semester GPA of 3.75-4.00. 

  • Alexander Brooks, of Arab, majoring in Mechanical Engineering 
  • Hailey Birckbichler, of Arab, majoring in Elementary Education 
  • Eli Keel, of Falkville, majoring in Political Science 

“The remarkable students achieving Chancellor’s Honor Roll are among the best and brightest at the University of Mississippi,” said Chancellor Glenn Boyce. “I commend them for their hard work and dedication resulting in their outstanding academic achievements and this well-deserved recognition.” 

In order to be eligible for honor roll designation, a student must have completed at least 12 graded hours for the semester and may not be on academic probation during the semester. 

Harding University 

The following students are among more than 1,300 Harding University students included on the Dean’s List for grades achieved during the Fall 2023 semester. 

  • Gracie Hamlett, of Falkville, is a senior studying elementary education. 
  • Addie Echols, of Cullman, is a sophomore studying public relations. 

The Dean’s List is published each semester by Dr. Marty Spears, University provost, honoring those who have achieved high scholarship. To be eligible, a student must be carrying 12 or more hours with a 3.65 or higher grade-point average and no incompletes. 

Samford University  

Samford University recognizes 2,122 students named to the Dean’s List for the fall 2023 semester. 

To qualify for the Dean’s List, a student must have earned a minimum 3.5 grade point average out of a possible 4.0 while attempting at least 12 credit hours of coursework. The Dean’s List is the highest academic recognition given by the school at the end of each semester.
