CULLMAN, Ala. – The lights of Loft 212 twinkled and reflected off countless beaded gowns and feathered masks Thursday evening, Oct. 19, as Victim Services of Cullman (VSOC) geared up to host its third annual Masquerade Ball to raise funds for its shelters and services.

The ball acts as VSOC’s primary fundraiser, bringing in major donations as attendees twirl to live music and bid on prize packages to benefit local victims and survivors of domestic abuse.

VSOC Executive Director Carol Horstman shared that while the event may seem like just another excuse do get dressed up during costume party season, it is so much more.

“It is always held in October in honor of Domestic Violence Awareness Month,” she explained.

Myriad businesses and personal sponsors come together year after year to make the fundraiser impactful, but Horstman said this year’s takes the cake.

“We are thankful to all the businesses and community members who donated items for our silent and live auctions. This community is always so generous to us, but this year they went above and beyond!” she exclaimed.

“We consider this year’s Masquerade Ball to have been a great success, raising over $30,000 for Victim Services’ shelters and domestic violence services,” she smiled, adding that the event was certainly not the work of one woman.

“We couldn’t have done it without our dedicated board of directors and staff!” she said.

To support VSOC during Domestic Violence Awareness Month, consider joining in on its upcoming awareness walk on Saturday, Oct. 28, 2023, beginning at 10 a.m. Attendees are asked to wear purple.
