Obituary: Emma Pauline “Polly” Hite Stricklin

Emma Pauline “Polly” Hite Stricklin was born on April 18, 1933. She passed away at her home on Sep. 14, 2023.  She was 90 years old. She was a lifetime Cullman resident and business owner. 

Preceded in death by her husband-Doyle Stricklin; mother-Freda Lindsey; stepfather- Donald Lindsey, father- Ervinn Hite; Sisters-Mary Gillis, (Hugh), Brenda Taylor, Brother- Neil Lindsey, (Alice).

Survived by: Daughter Teresa “Teri” Stricklin Rowan (Stuart); grandchildren- Taylor Rowan (Jamie), Morgan Rowan Fonseca (Daniel), David Minnick (Heather); great-grandchildren- Braylon, Jayce, Zoey, Jayde, Lucas, and Oliver.

In 1963 Polly opened Polly’s House of Beauty, a community landmark for over 40 years. In 1995 she sold her business to Jimmy Drake, DBA, J. Drake Salon & Spa. Her Cosmetology career began when she was 16 years old and spanned more than 68 years. Polly was a member of the Cullman First Church of the Nazarene. She served as a Board member and was instrumental in helping the church relocate to its Hwy 157 location in the 1970’s. In 2006, she was featured among Channel 2’s “Women in the Workplace.” 

As a lifetime Cullman resident, she cherished her long list of family, friends/clients. Polly loved to talk about her grandchildren, shop and cook, and “make women beautiful”. She was hard working, but always managed to bring laughter with her sense of humor. Her generosity was boundless and reflected her love for God.

A memorial service is planned for Saturday, Sep. 23, 2023 at Moss Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 12:30 p.m. until 1 p.m. with Memorial service at 1 p.m. Reception will follow at the funeral home.
