CLANTON – Widespread dense fog will occur statewide through late morning with the visibility ¼ mile or less. Allow extra time to reach your destination.
A line of showers and thunderstorms will enter northwestern Alabama between 10 pm tonight and 2 am Thursday and move quickly through the state during the morning hours, exiting the southeastern sections by mid-afternoon.
The line will be decreasing in intensity as it progresses eastward with no threat of severe weather for the eastern and southern sections.
A few damaging straight-line wind gusts and a brief tornado or two are possible in both the northern and western sections of Alabama, but the overall threat is low and widespread severe weather will not occur. A timing graphic is shown above.
Another system will produce rain and a few thunderstorms Saturday into Sunday. Limited instability continues to be forecast in far south Alabama with a couple of straight-line wind gusts possible from 40-60 mph Saturday night into Sunday over the southern sections.
In the long-range, yet another system is forecast to affect the state next Tuesday night (24th) into Wednesday (25th). Models continue to vary on the strength of this system but does continue to show at least some severe storm potential.
Total rainfall of 1-2 inches is forecast through this weekend with locally higher amounts in stronger thunderstorms.
