Cullman City Council invites public to Skate Depot grand opening

CULLMAN, Ala. – Cullman City Councilman Clint Hollingsworth and Mayor Woody Jacobs invited the public to attend the grand opening of Skate Depot, Cullman’s new skatepark, on Saturday, Nov. 12, from noon-3 p.m. The event will feature professional skateboarder Jake Wooten and other entertainment.  

Jacobs shared, “The skaters are extremely happy and taking ownership of the park.” 

Councilman Johnny Cook said this year’s Hazardous Waste Day, held Nov. 5, did not see as much participation as last year’s. However, the City is looking at the possibility of holding a monthly drop off in the future. Cook also reported that the City’s two new vacuum trucks, used for leaf pick up, will be in service this week and are expected to cause less damage to roads and curbs. 

The council scheduled two public hearings for Monday, Dec. 12 at 7 p.m.: 

  • Ordinance No. 2023-04 to adopt of the 2021 International Building Code including the companion codes 
  • Ordinance No. 2023-05 to rezone the Apel property located at 1106 Second Ave. NW from M-1 Manufacturing to B-2 Business District 

Two requests were approved for a property at 1300 Mitchell Road NW, which will be one building with two suites: 

  • Save More and Grill located at 1300 Mitchell Road NW, Ste. A, for an off-premises beer and wine alcohol license, which received a favorable recommendation from the City of Cullman Alcohol Review Committee 
  • Discount Package Store located at 1300 Mitchell Road NW, Ste. B, for an off-premises package store alcohol license, which received a favorable recommendation from the City of Cullman Alcohol Review Committee 

The following ordinances were approved: 

  • Ordinance No. 2023-03 to annex properties owned by the City of Cullman located on Alabama Highway 69 as M-1 Manufacturing 
  • Ordinance No. 2023-06 to amend the street construction specifications and work within City of Cullman right-of-way which will set a protocol for contractors 
  • Ordinance No. 2023-07 to regulate the parking of recreational vehicles 

The Cullman City Council holds its regular meetings on the second and fourth Mondays of each month. Meetings are held at Cullman City Hall at 7 p.m. and the public is encouraged to attend.
