PREP VOLLEYBALL: Good Hope sweeps tri-match with West Point, Carbon Hill

GOOD HOPE, Ala. — The Good Hope Lady Raiders hosted a tri-match with West Point and Carbon Hill Thursday afternoon and ended up sweeping both teams to open the season with a pair of wins.

Good Hope 25 – West Point 16 (First Set)

West Point got a quick kill from Liberty Shadix to start out game one, then Hallie Wheeler delivered an ace to make it 2-0, but Good Hope scored the next four points to take a 4-2 lead. After the Lady Warriors tied it up at six, the Lady Raiders reeled off five straight points, including a kill by Ivey Maddox, to give them a 10-6 lead. A kill by Laklin Shadix cut the West Point deficit to two at 10-8, but later on, a point by Maddox, an ace by Addie Stripling and a kill by Bailey Keef, helped stretch the Good Hope lead to 14-9. A huge dig by Maddox later led to Stripling getting a point for her team as that made it 16-10.

Every time West Point looked to mount a rally to get back in the game, Good Hope always found a way to counter. After the Lady Warriors made it 16-12, a pair of Katie Creel aces helped the Lady Raiders push their lead to 20-12. Later on, Keef added two aces and Charly Johnson got a kill as that helped Good Hope win game one, 25-16. Keef finished with a pair of aces and a kill for Good Hope. Creel added a pair of aces herself and collected a point as well. Maddox ended up with a kill, a point, and a dig, while Stripling finished with an ace and a point.

For West Point, Liberty Shadix finished with a kill and an ace. Wheeler added an ace. Laklin Shadix ended up with a kill and a point, while Caitlee Simmons collected a point as well.

Good Hope 25 – West Point 6 (Second Set)

Good Hope got off to a very strong start in the second game, as Ivey Maddox collected an astounding seven aces. Bailey Keef collected a pair of points and Emma Bailey added one as well as the Lady Raiders jumped out to a 10-0 lead. A Katie Creel ace made it 13-1 and Good Hope never let the Lady Warriors into the contest as they rolled to a 25-6 victory and a 2-0 sweep of West Point.

Maddox finished with seven aces and a kill for Good Hope. Keef added a pair of kills, two points, and an ace. Johnson collected a pair of points and a kill and Maddie McKenney ended up with a point as well. Liberty Shadix finished with a point for West Point.

Good Hope 25 – Carbon Hill 15 (First Set)

Carbon Hill got off to a very good start against Good Hope in game one as they jumped out to a quick 5-2 lead. The Lady Raiders later trimmed it to 5-4 on a Keef ace and later made it 7-6 on a Johnson kill. Back-to-back kills by Maddox and Creel gave Good Hope a 10-8 lead. A block point by Johnson pushed their lead to 12-8. The Lady Bulldogs later rallied and tied the game up at 13; they would later tie the game up at 15. After that, though, it was all Good Hope as they scored the final 10 points of the contest, including a pair of kills and a pair of points by Keef, and four aces by Creel, to give the Lady Raiders a 25-15 win in game one.

Keef finished with a trio of kills, two points, and an ace for Good Hope. Creel added four aces. Maddox ended up with a trio of points and a kill. Johnson added a block point and a kill, while Emma Bailey collected a point as well. 

Good Hope 25 – Carbon Hill 7 (Second Set)

Game two of this game against Carbon Hill went exactly the same way it did against West Point as Ivey Maddox came out like a girl on a mission, collecting seven aces, and Keef chipped in with a pair of kills and a pair of points as Good Hope scored the first 12 points of the game before the Lady Bulldogs got their first point of the game. Later on, Creel kept her amazing day going as she added two more aces to make it 15-2. Carbon Hill made a mini run to make it 17-7, but the Lady Raiders put a stop to their run in a hurry as they scored the final eight points of the contest to win the game, 25-7, and picked up another sweep in the process.

Maddox had another big game as she finished with seven aces for Good Hope (2-0). Keef added a pair of kills and two points. Creel ended up with two more aces. Bailey added an ace of her own and Johnson collected a point.

Good Hope will play in a tournament match at Lauderdale County and they will face off against Elkmont Saturday morning at 9 a.m.

Carbon Hill 25 – West Point 15 (First Set)

West Point looked to shake off their sweep of Good Hope as they took on Carbon Hill in the next game. Game one was a back-and-forth affair early on. The Lady Warriors held a slim 5-4 lead, but the Lady Bulldogs scored the next eight points of the game to take a 12-5 lead. The Lady Warriors, though, ended up going on a rally and they would later make it a 14-10 game. Carbon Hill stretched their lead to 17-10, but a Liberty Shadix kill made it a 17-11 game and later on, a Macayla Wilkins ace cut it to 18-13. That would be as close as they would get through, as the Lady Bulldogs went on a 7-2 run to close out the contest and West Point ended up dropping the first game, 25-15.

Shadix finished with a pair of kills and a point for the Lady Warriors and Wilkins added an ace as well.

Carbon Hill 25 – West Point 22 (Second Set)

West Point got off to a strong start in game two, as Liberty Shadix got her team on the scoreboard via a kill, then Brindlee Phillips collected an ace to make it 2-0. Brooklynn Wells would later add a point to make it a 4-2 game, then Shadix collected a point and an ace to push the Lady Warrior lead to 6-3. A Kylee Quinn kill kept the West Point lead at three at 11-8, but the Lady Bulldogs tied it up at 11. Another Quinn kill broke the tie and gave the Lady Warriors a 12-11 lead. Carbon Hill, once again, went on another run as that gave them a 16-12 lead. The Lady Warriors countered with five straight points, including another kill by Shadix, as they got the lead right back at 17-16. 

It was really tight the rest of the way as West Point looked for that huge run to take game two. Carbon Hill held a 20-19 lead and a huge kill by Laklin Shadix tied the game up at 21 later on. Carbon Hill held a 23-21 lead and the Lady Warriors made it a one-point game, but the Lady Bulldogs got the final two points of the contest as they edged past West Point, 25-22. Liberty Shadix finished with a pair of kills, an ace, and a point for West Point (0-2). Quinn added a pair of kills. Laklin Shadix ended up with a pair of kills and a point. Phillips collected an ace and a block point, while Wells added a point as well. The Lady Warriors will travel to Mortimer Jordan Tuesday.
