BERRY, Ala. – Meek scored 16 fourth-quarter points to defeat Berry 38-28 Friday night, closing the regular season with its fifth consecutive victory.
The Tigers finished 7-3 overall and will carry that winning streak into the Class 1A playoffs.
Meek had already secured the No. 3 seed in Region 7 after completing region play at 5-2.
Meek built a 22-14 halftime advantage, but Berry supplied the only points of the third quarter.
The Wildcats added 6 during the period, trimming the Tigers’ lead to 22-20 entering the fourth.
Both teams added 8 points during the final quarter, leaving Meek ahead 30-28. The Tigers added 8 more to extend the margin to 38-28 and held Berry there through the finish.
The victory followed region wins over Waterloo, Belgreen, Phillips and Red Bay.
Berry finished the regular season 4-6 overall and will enter the playoffs as the No. 4 seed from Class 1A, Region 5, where it finished 4-3.
Friday’s nonregion result did not change Meek’s playoff position.
The AHSAA’s published bracket pairs the Tigers with Region 6 runner-up Loachapoka for a road opener Friday, Nov. 6.
