CULLMAN, Ala. – Cullman Ballet Theatre School (CBT) is offering the opportunity for all ages, from young children to adults, to attend Summer Dance Classes. The curriculum at CBT School is carefully structured by levels to provide challenging yet safe training to each student. Students are placed in the appropriate level by the director in consultation with the former dance teacher and the dancers’ parents based on a combination of age, experience and strength.

The first level is the Introduction to Dance Camps for ages 3-8 on June 14-16 and June 21-23 at 9:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. Children take an age-appropriate ballet class, create a ballet-oriented craft and will also have a story time where they learn about classical story ballets. Water will be provided for break time. All craft materials will be supplied. Parents and friends may observe the last day of camp at 11:15 a.m. $90 for one camp week, $160 for both camps.

The class will be taught by Anna Willingham Lanier who has been teaching pre-ballet for over 20 years at CBT. She is the owner of “Dance with Us,” Cullman’s only dancewear specialty shop.
Anna also teaches pre-ballet class levels A, B, C and community ballet classes, which is the multi-level ballet technique for dancers age pre-teen and above. Anna studied ballet from her mother, Elaine Willingham, from age 5 until graduation from high school.

The Intermediate class for ages 9-12 and Advanced class for ages 12 and up are from June 13-28 and July 11-29 on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday. Students will be taught ballet technique, terminology, Pilates, jazz, hip hop, contemporary/lyrical and Acro.

Anna Lanier will teach the Intermediate level classes in the evenings. Director Elaine Willingham will teach the Advanced level classes, Leah Bowden will teach jazz and hip hop for the Intermediate and Advanced levels and Cloe Carter will teach contemporary and Acro.

Since ballet is the foundation of dance, it is still beneficial to learn for any students who do not wish to continue will ballet. Director Elaine Willingham said, “Ballet isn’t for everyone and that is why we continue to have a hip hop teacher.” She said that hip hop would be easier for any child to learn regardless of previous experience.

Ballet Theatre School highly stresses summer studies for serious students, Master classes with guest teachers of title are planned throughout the year for Intermediate to Advanced students. Registration can be completed online at https://www.cullmanballettheatre.com/ or at Cullman Ballet Theatre School.

All dance attire is available at “Dance with Us,” Cullman’s only dance shop located next door to Cullman Ballet Theatre School.
