CULLMAN, Ala. – The 4th annual Stuff the Bus campaign is kicking off this weekend! This yearly event is organized by United Way of Cullman County and is partnering with Cullman City and County schools to ensure that all teachers and students have the supplies they need for the upcoming school year.

Stuff-the-Bus and Tax-Free Weekend both begin Friday, July 16, and while Tax-Free Weekend ends on the 18, Stuff the Bus will last five extra days, ending on the July 23, to provide ample time for any and all donations. Along with the extended time period, there will be multiple drop-off and donation locations.

The Cullman Tribune has also partnered with Stuff-the-Bus as a drop-off location. There are two large school bus donation boxes inside the office, which is located at 219 Second Ave. SE. There is a twist though. The Tribune would like to challenge our readers to fill one box while we fill the other! Though any school supply donation is welcome, there are a few items that are particularly needed, including:

  • #2 pencils
  • Glue sticks
  • Rulers
  • Index cards
  • Graph paper
  • 1-2 inch 3-ring binders
  • Crayons
  • Zipper pencil cases
  • Hand sanitizer
  • Colored pencils
  • Composition notebooks
  • Pens: red, blue and black
  • Erasers
  • Safety Scissors
  • Ruled notebook paper

Cullman High School Principal Kim Hall shared previously with The Tribune, “We are so thankful to live in such a supportive and generous community. Many students and families have suffered loss over the past year. It is so helpful to be able to provide these students with necessary school supplies to prepare them for a successful school year! Thank you to United Way of Cullman County for organizing the ‘Stuff the Bus’ event to help students in our school and throughout our community.”

The main drop-off location will be a school bus located in the south parking lot adjacent to the Cullman County Courthouse. Hall said, “We are so thankful to live in such a supportive and generous community. Many students and families have suffered loss over the past year.
