HANCEVILLE, Ala. – The Cullman Peach Orchard is formally owned by Johnathon Clayton, but is largely a family business. His sister Anita Warner explained that Clayton originally purchased the farm in 2007 and began growing peaches shortly after. The first peach trees for the orchard were planted in 2010.

When the orchard first began to produce in full, people would often stop and inquire about purchasing the freshly grown fruit. Clayton had the idea to set up an honor system within his garage and it was established with baskets of peaches and a place to leave money in exchange.

The Cullman Peach Orchard only grew from there, with Clayton having assembled his marketplace area to sell his peaches and other types of fresh produce from the Cullman Farmer’s Market and Georgia. With 14 different varieties of peaches, each is staggered slightly in the seeding process to guarantee the first comes in around the beginning of May, following a new variety every two weeks.

Though the produce stand has been opened as early in the year as mid-March, it usually opens at the beginning of April, through Labor Day each year, or until all trees are done producing.

Warner shared, “I think the people in the neighborhood really enjoy coming for the fruit stand and we have talked to people from as far as Louisiana that make a point to stop in Cullman for our produce. They take it to their families and friends. It is actually so fun to meet people from so many different places.”

The Cullman Peach Orchard is located at 3671 County Rd 38, Hanceville, AL 35077. Visit their Facebook page for more information and updates throughout the season https://www.facebook.com/CullmanPeachOrchard
