CULLMAN, Ala. – The Cullman City School Board recently named its elementary and secondary Teachers of the Year and honored its school nurses for their service during the pandemic.

Teachers of the Year were:

  • Blakely Burns, East Elementary School, Elementary Teacher of the Year
  • Linda Bean, Cullman Middle School, Secondary Teacher of the Year

Cullman City School Superintendent Kyle Kallhoff told The Tribune, “Earlier this month we celebrated Teacher Appreciation Week. As a father and superintendent, I would like to thank all of the teachers in this state, but specifically those here in Cullman. Cullman City is one of the few systems in Alabama that made it through this school year, being coined by many as the pandemic year, with minimal interruptions to face-to-face instruction. Educators here in Cullman took unbelievable risks all year to make sure traditional face-to-face delivery of instruction took place.”

The board also celebrated School Nurses Day by recognizing the system’s six nurses:

  • Amanda Baker, East Elementary School
  • Shan Goodlett, Cullman Middle School
  • Reeta Morrow, West Elementary School
  • Dori Potter, West Elementary School
  • Jennifer Shugarts, Cullman High School
  • Kalysha Whittle, Cullman City Primary School

Kallhoff said, “Our students, faculty and staff were fortunate this year to have these six nurses making sure everyone stayed safe and healthy during the ‘Pandemic’ school year.”
