VINEMONT, Ala. – The annual Vinemont Band Booster Craft Show will take place this Friday and Saturday, Nov. 20-21 at Cullman Church of Christ (4345 Alabama Highway 157, Cullman, AL 35058). The event is the largest fundraiser for the Vinemont band program. Hours are 9 a.m.-7 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday.

Held at what was the Cullman Civic Center in years past, the craft show found a new home at Cullman Church of Christ this year, said show coordinator and Vinemont Band Booster Miranda Reeves, who has had her hands full with finding the new location and the obstacles created by the COVID-19 pandemic.

But, as they say in the band, the show must go on.

“I have 72 booths,” said Reeves, “and I pretty well have them all filled.”

Crafts and goods at this year’s show will include some old favorites as well as some from newcomers. Returning this year is the Haiti missionary craft booth; a new missionary vendor, Send Me Refuge, will be selling coffee.

Another new vendor will be Candy Cane Land, as Reeves explained, “It’s two girls in college, and they put ingredients in a jar, for like brownies and other things. Then you take it home and bake it. That’s really neat.”

Reeves will also have a booth set up at the show with her employer selling aggravation boards, ceramic coasters and cornhole boards. “We have a little bit of everything,” she said.

Other items for sale will include soy candles, soaps, lotions, leather goods, wood crafts, metal crafts, door hangers, baked goods, jewelry, crochet, gourd art, flowers, home décor, personalized Christmas ornaments, lazy Susans, wreaths and greeting cards.

Concessions will be sold both Friday and Saturday. Raffle tickets ($1) will be sold at the door for a chance to win $500 cash. The drawing will be at noon Saturday. Tickets can also be purchased now from band students.

Reeves said she is very aware of the increase in the number of local COVID cases and is taking recommended precautions.

“I am doing the COVID protocols that we have to do,” she said. “I am asking all the vendors to have Germ-X in their booths, and we will have Germ-X throughout. I am asking everybody to wear a mask and adhere to the 6-foot distancing rule.”

The Vinemont Band Boosters and band students will also be required to wear masks.

“I don’t like wearing a mask, but I will be wearing one,” said Reeves. “If I have the kids wear one, I am going to wear one, too.”

The money raised from the craft show will be used for upkeep of instruments and to purchase necessary items and equipment for the band program. Reeves said normally the money would also help fund a fun trip for the band, but not this year.

“We haven’t really had great luck with fundraisers this year,” she said. “The kids have had a hard time getting out.”
