BREMEN, Ala. – The Top 9 Smith Lake Idol contestants will perform tonight at 8 p.m. at Rooster’s Corner. The inaugural Smith Lake Idol contest has been entertaining residents since late June, thanks to Patrick “Kat Daddy” Watson, Drew “Rooster” McClendon and Smith Lake Productions’ Kris and Kelly Eddins.

“We started auditions on June 26, we had our second round July 3, because of COVID-19 we had to cut our auditions short,” said Kris Eddins. “We had a total of 59 contestants. (Next year,) those interested can register online or they just show up.”

“Where I’m from, I actually participated in the first year where I’m from. Then, after that, I kind of took over organizing and getting it to where we had hundreds try out. I approached Kris about it and then we approached Kat Daddy,” Kelly Eddins said. “He was talking to us one day and wanted ideas, and I said, ‘Well, I have this idea.’ We talked about it, and the virus hit right after we talked about doing it, so we had to put it off and finally we decided to go ahead.”

She continued, “It’s an amazing thing to find how much talent you have in your county or the surrounding counties; we’ve actually had people come from Nashville and audition. We want to see the talent. It’s hard for people to get out that are serious about their musical career and want to take it to the next level; this is something that they can do. We’ve actually had producers come and watch, and some producers have actually already talked to the contestants. It’s a good way to get out your name and your voice, and that’s where we at Smith Lake Productions come in to help them along the way. We did it for the community, to try and get people out there, out of their norm from karaoke, to try and get them out there or the exposure to probably get them to the next level.”

Kris Eddins noted one of their Nashville participants made it to the Top 9.

The Top 9 are:

  • Josh Wade
  • Meghan Grenaway
  • Brittany Wilson
  • Johnathan Ralph
  • Cody Hallford
  • Tessa Lackey
  • Shawn Travis
  • Jake Mann
  • Justin Veal

Three contestants will be eliminated tonight.
