HANCEVILLE, Ala. – Good Hope and West Point tipped off championship Saturday at Tom Drake Coliseum with the JV Girls finals and after a slow start in the first quarter, the Lady Warriors were able to methodically pull away and defeat the Lady Raiders 47-20, capturing back to back JV Girls county crowns.

The Lady Warriors held a 3-1 lead after a slow start to the opening quarter but a three-pointer from Braelee Quinn stretched the lead to 6-1 midway through the period. Desire’ Odachowski netted a pair of free throws to trim the lead to three but Nikki Tyree responded with two free throws on the other end to put West Point on top 8-3. Summer Mendoza layed one in off the glass to make it 10-3 late in the first and the Lady Warriors went into the second with a 7-point lead.

Alexis Kimbrill drilled a three-pointer from the right wing to extend the lead to 13-3 early in the second quarter but Kyndall Seal answered with a deep three on the other end to cut the lead back down to seven. Kylee Quinn scored down low to make it 15-6 but Maddie McKenney banked one in for Good Hope to cut the deficit to seven. Kylie Quinn put another in at the rim to give West Point a 17-9 advantage with just over two minutes to play in the half and Tyree drilled a trey from the left corner to make it 21-9 in the final seconds of the quarter to give West Point a 12-point lead at the break.

Another Kylie Quinn bucket put the Lady Warriors in front 25-9 early in the third quarter and Bethany Minck buried a triple to make it 28-9 midway through the period. Odachowski knocked down a three to cut the lead 15 but back to back Minck baskets stretched the lead back out to 32-13. Tyree pulled down an offensive board and layed one up and in to make it a 34-13 game late in the third but Odachowski hit a three from the top of the key to cut the lead to 35-16 going into the final frame.

A Braelee Quinn bucket added to the West Point lead early in the fourth and a steal and layup by Minck made it 39-16. Minck banked one in off the glass to give the Lady Warriors a 43-18 with less than two minutes to play and West Point pulled away to defeat the Lady Raiders 47-20.

After the game, Lady Warriors Head Coach Richie Penn was proud of the way his team came into the game prepared and ready to play together.

“We didn’t want to change anything that we’ve been doing all season. We felt that the press has been very effective for us, so we knew we wanted to press and play good defense out of the gate. All the girls did that,” Penn said. “It wasn’t just our starters but also our girls that come off the bench. It was a total team effort and when they came off the bench to sub in for our starters, its like we didn’t miss a beat. So, it was a total team effort from the girls.

Minck led the way for West Point with 13 points in the win, followed by Tyree, Mendoza and Kylee Quinn who each added seven. Odachowski led Good Hope with nine points in the loss. Addie Stripling posted four and Seal and McKenney each scored three.
