CULLMAN, Ala. – Cullman County Animal Shelter staff reported to The Tribune that the shelter has had a good Christmas season so far, with good numbers of pets finding homes, including two entire litters of puppies. There are still canine friends awaiting adoption, though, so shelter staff shared The Cullman Tribune Pet of the Week:

Lucas is a 1.75-2-year-old red heeler. He’s a lively, medium-high-energy grown-up puppy who cherishes interacting with people. He enjoys being groomed and playing with his toys, especially if his humans play too. He has a good appetite and is quiet and well-mannered in his kennel.

Lucas had the makings of a companion, therapy or hiking dog.

Lucas’s adoption fee is $90 which includes: DHLPP vaccine, Bordetella vaccines, rabies vaccine, wormer, general exam at the vet, neutering, microchip, free 30-day health insurance policy issued by 24PetWatch (with valid email only) and a free bag of food from Cullman Pet Depot (you must pay sales tax).

Animal shelter staff and volunteers work with their dogs to make sure they are accustomed to being around people, walking on a leash and practicing good behavior. Several of the shelter’s dogs have even been “hired” to work as therapy and special needs service dogs.

Please consider adopting, to give a rescued pet a chance at a happy and healthy life.
