Hanceville man indicted on murder charge in Aug. 2019 wreck

CULLMAN, Ala. – A Hanceville man was arrested Wednesday, Nov. 13 after being indicted by a Cullman County grand jury on charges of murder, manslaughter, reckless driving and driving in the left center lane. The charges against Jacolby Connway Pitts, 31, stem from the Aug. 1, 2019 wreck that took the life of Kristopher Lyn Griffin, 34, of Cullman.

The two-vehicle wreck happened in the 1600 block of County Road 616 in the community of Johnson’s Crossing.

Alabama State Troopers said the wreck occurred at 4:30 p.m. when the GMC pickup Griffin was driving was struck by a Ford F-250 driven by Pitts. Griffin was not wearing a seat belt and was pronounced dead at the scene. Pitts was not injured.

Indictment paperwork was not yet available by press time.
