Obituary: Brother Lawson Clark

Brother Lawson Clark, 78, of Haleyville passed away Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2019 at his home, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born Feb. 11, 1941 to William D. and Laura Willis Clark.

Brother Lawson was a 55-year member of Union Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Haleyville. His love for the Lord and people showed throughout his years of service as pastor at numerous churches, including Union Grove Missionary Baptist Church, Bethel #2 Missionary Baptist Church, Ireland Freewill Baptist Church, and Mt. Vernon Missionary Baptist Church. He was an outdoorsman who loved gardening and farming. Most of all, second only to his love for God- was Lawson’s love for his family.

Visitation will be Friday, Oct. 25, 2019 from 6-9 p.m. at Union Grove Missionary Baptist Church (County Road 20- Haleyville), where the service will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. Brother Keith Hood and Brother Brian Hutcheson Will officiate the service. Burial will be in the adjoining cemetery.

Brother Lawson is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Freda Jean Clark; daughters, Velma Gaye (Ronnie) Hodge, Pamela Kaye (Tony Ray) Shirley, Roxanna Hutcheson, and Jaleana Lynn (Joseph) Wilson; brother, J.D. Clark; sisters, Lockcile (Elbert) Elkins and Charslean Sibley; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William D. and Laura Mae Willis Clark; sister, Maycine Tackitt; and grandson, Damion Holley.
