GOOD HOPE, Ala. – After getting things started with a 28-9 win over Carbon Hill last week, the Good Hope Raiders were at home once again Friday night to take on Priceville.

Priceville won the toss and deferred till the second half. Good Hope got the ball first with a quick punt. Priceville got the ball and drove 78 yards to finish with a 32-yard touchdown.

With a missed extra point, the game moved into the second quarter with the score 6-0, Priceville. Another quick punt by the Raiders gave the ball back to Priceville, but with a great  defensive stop, Good Hope got the ball back and put together a physical drive to score a touchdown 56 yards later. An extra point gave the Raiders the lead, 7-6.

The Raiders came back with a defensive hold and following a botched snap on the punt, they got the ball back on the Bulldogs’ 8-yard line and a 3-yard run by Tanner Malin stretched the lead to 13-6 after the missed extra point. Priceville responded with a 73-yard touchdown run that tied the game at 13 going into the half.

The Raiders came out and made a defensive stand to get the ball back and drive 54 yards down the field to bring the score 21-13 following the 2-point conversion. Priceville retaliated with a 69-yard touchdown with a failed 2-point conversion that brought the score to 21-19 Good Hope headed into the fourth quarter.

Good hope’s Malin connected with Drew Maddox to bring the score to 28-19 following the extra point, but Priceville fired right back with a 45-yard touchdown run to make it 28-26 following the extra point.

The Raider defense made a big stop, and Colton Bagwell ran in a 5-yard touchdown to make it 35-26 following the extra point. The Raiders got the ball back and Bagwell put things away with a 52-yard touchdown run that brought the final score to 41-26.

It was a very physical football game by both teams by far.

When asked what the turning point was to such a slow start, Raiders Head Coach Alan Scott’s response was simple: “When it came time to step up and keep hitting, they stepped up. Our boys played a physical ball game tonight. I’m very proud of all of them tonight; they didn’t give up and all their hard work paid off.”
