James “JL” Levi Godsey, 71, of Dayton, TN., formerly of Double Springs, passed away on March 23, 2019.

James “JL” was born on November 29, 1947 in Double Springs. James attended Winston County High School.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 28, 2019 from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Nichols Funeral Homes in Double Springs. Funeral Services will be held on Friday at 2 p.m. at Fairview Missionary Baptist Church where he will lie in state from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m. Brother Tony Gasaway and Brother Delmar Dubois will officiate. Burial will be in the adjoining cemetery.

James “JL” is survived by his step son; Kenneth Jackson and his wife Janis; step daughters, Malinda Rayburn, Renee Baker and her husband Glenn, Bonnie Sue Aaron; brothers, Eugene Godsey, Edmon Godsey and his wife Tami, and Scottie Godsey and his wife Charolett; sisters, Betty Claburn and Mary Godsey; he was Paw Paw to 8 grandchildren, Heather (Scott) McGoughy, Dewayne (Mary) Baker, Eric (Tammy) Jackson, Jason Jackson, Dana (Bubba) Lewis, Amanda Hill, Ashley White, and Kenneth (Jennifer) Rayburn; and Great Paw Paw to 16 great-grandchildren, Chasity Smith, Brendon (Amber) Westmoreland, Bradley (Ashley) Justice, Kristen Hill, Blake (Courtney) Baker, Rheanna Baker, Hannah Alexander, Noah Jackson, Hayden Jackson, Emma Ballenger, Morgan Lewis, Walker Lewis, Tyler Baker, Kizer Baker, Mirrisa Cook and Dani Cook; and 11 great-great-grandchildren, Hunter Baker, Brentley Alexander, Mason Smith, Jase Pruitt, Carter Pruitt, Bailey Smiley, McKenzie Hydie Smiley, Charleigh Justice, Sebastin Sutherland, Anslie Westmoreland and AJ Westmoreland.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Iona Godsey; parents, Inas and Coralee Godsey; brothers, Larry Godsey, Roy Godsey, Terry Godsey, Tommy Godsey and Robert Godsey.
