Verle Hill and Miss Carolyn Braphy, of Buffalo, New York were married on December 17th. The wedding took place at Ridge Crest Baptist Church, in Syracuse, New York. They spent their honeymoon in Alabama, visiting his parents, the M.A. Hills.

Corporal Wayne R. Hyatt left on Saturday to return to West Point College, in New York, after spending two weeks visiting his parents, Mr. and Mrs. R.B. Hyatt.

Private Wallace E. Green called his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Wallace Green from Los Angeles, California, before sailing on Wednesday for the Far East.

Mr. and Mrs. Edward C. Wenzel announce the engagement of their daughter, Emma Sue, to James W. Wells, son of G.W. Wells, of Detroit, Michigan and the late Mrs. Wells. The wedding date will be announced later.

 

Cullman County Confederate Pension As Of January 1st, 1955

Mrs. (Dora) H.W. Denny, Route Seven, Cullman (widow); Mrs. Martha D. Hendrix, Route Three, Vinemont (widow) and Mrs. Roxie Oden, Route One, Joppa (widow).

Private S.R. Leo White, son of Mr. and Mrs. S.R. White, of Route Ten, Cullman was recently promoted to the rank of private first class. He is working with a Signal Base depot in Germany.

Mr. and Mrs. George Schwaiger and Johnny, of North Carolina spent the first of last week with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Curtis Eady.

Mr. and Mrs. Earl Luna and daughter, Earlene have returned to their home in Pontiac, Michigan, after spending the Christmas holidays with relatives in Garden City and Hanceville.

 

Baby New Year 1955

Brenda Dian Aldridge, daughter of Mrs. W.N. Aldridge, was Cullman County’s Baby New Year 1955. She was the first child born in the county, having been delivered by Doctor L.H. Clemmons at 4:54 a.m. on January 1st at the Cullman Hospital. She has six brothers and sisters, Willie Gene, 16; Bobby Nell, 13; Mary Ann, 10; James William, 8; Carolyn Lee, 6 and Edith, 4. Her grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. A.A. Aldridge and Mrs. Judy Kyles.

 

Showing at The Ritz Theatre: continuous shows from 2:00 p.m. for one week starting Thursday, Irving Berlin’s “White Christmas” in Vista Vision, starring Bing Crosby, Danny Kaye, Rosemary Clooney and Vera Ellen. Color by Technicolor, a Paramount Picture. Cullman: Saturday – Randolph Scott in “Man In The Saddle,” Technicolor; Sunday and Monday – “Bengal Brigade” in Technicolor with Rock Hudson and Arlene Dahl and Tuesday and Wednesday – “Torpedo Alley” with Mark Stevens and Dorothy Malone.

 

Mr. and Mrs. Bertis V. Cagle were married in a double-ring ceremony by Reverend Sammy M. Stabler at 2:00 o’clock, December 12th, at West Cullman Methodist Church.

Mrs. Cagle, the former Frances Eulala Murphree, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Walter E. Murphree, of Cullman. Mr. Cagle’s parents are Mr. and Mrs. E.D. Cagle, of Route Four, Cullman.

Mr. and Mrs. James Horton are at home in Birmingham, following their wedding on December 24th. Mrs. Horton is the former Vonell Shoemaker, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Shoemaker, of Route One, Vinemont. Mr. Horton’s parents are Mr. and Mrs. Athel Horton, of Route Three, Vinemont.
