CULLMAN – Moss Service Funeral Home on Friday, Nov. 9 received a 2018 Torch Award for Ethics in Business from the Better Business Bureau of North Alabama. Moss Service staff accepted the award at the 21st annual Torch Award banquet at the Jackson Center in Huntsville.

The BBB of North Alabama serves Colbert, Cullman, DeKalb, Franklin, Jackson, Lauderdale, Lawrence, Limestone, Madison, Marion, Marshall, Morgan and Winston Counties. It describes the Torch Awards: “The purpose of the Torch Awards is to publicly acknowledge businesses and organizations that maintain a solid commitment to conducting their business practices in an ethical fashion. These businesses build trust, advertise honestly, tell the truth, remain transparent and honor their promises. Shining a spotlight on these organizations fits BBB’s mission to be the leader in advancing marketplace trust. The awards bring attention to the practices that organizations employ to generate a high level of trust, among their employees, customers, and their communities.”

Moss Service General Manager Mike Pepple said Moss was selected from more than 50 nominations in its service area. Moss Service will now be eligible to compete at the national level for the Council of Better Business Bureaus International Torch Award for Ethics.

Moss Service, as well as all entries, was nominated for the Torch Award anonymously by its peers. Once nominated, said Pepple, an entry is submitted that demonstrates a commitment to business ethics in action with customers, vendors and employees. This is defined by a clear position statement. Supporting letters of recommendation are submitted by customers, vendors and community organizations. Once the entries are received they are evaluated by an independent panel of judges comprised of volunteer business and community leaders based on criteria established by the BBB of North Alabama.
