I-65 traffic stop yields meth, handgun

CULLMAN – Cullman City Police Department (CPD) officers on Thursday arrested a man after a traffic stop on Interstate 65 led to the discovery of drugs and a weapon.

CPD Sgt. Chris Thomason and Officer Trey Higginbotham stopped a vehicle on the interstate near mile marker 309 for a traffic violation.  After gaining consent to search the vehicle, they recovered approximately 20 grams of methamphetamine, along with a loaded 9mm Beretta handgun, a suboxone strip and drug paraphernalia.

Timmy Dean Patterson, 54, of Cullman was charged with possession with intent to distribute, unlawful possession of a controlled substance and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia. Patterson was booked into the Cullman County Detention Center on a $22,000 bond.
