WEST POINT – The victim in Monday's traffic incident on Highway 157 North near West Point has been identified. Dana "Mark" Tucker, 53, of Calhoun County was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, which occurred near the 8200 block of Highway 157 North in West Point at approximately 4 p.m.

Cullman County Deputy Coroner Samuel Tucker said, "The victim suffered from some type of medical condition that caused him to lose consciousness. He never touched the brakes."

Tucker says the victim's vehicle, a Nissan pickup truck, left the roadway, went through a ditch, up an embankment and crossed a residential property before coming to rest in the woods behind the resident's home.

"The vehicle went about 150 feet off of Highway 157," said Tucker.

Authorities at the time classified the incident as a traffic fatality, which would have been handled by state troopers from the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA); however, when reached early this morning for an update, an ALEA spokesman said, "That was a medical call."

Emergency responders from West Point worked the scene, along with deputies from the Cullman County Sheriff's Office.
