FAIRVIEW – The Fairview Lions Club hosted a Labor Day car show and family fun event in the glorious shade of community park on Wesley Avenue Monday. The venue helped lessen the 90-degree heat, making the occasion quite enjoyable.

The President of the Fairview Lions Club, William Criso, stated, “It’s just an event we do for a fundraiser. Anyone’s welcome! We’d like to see the event get bigger and bigger every year. We are planning on doing it next year. We’re a small group but we’re trying to help all we can.”

All the money collected from the car show is going to the club, which will help them help others. The Fairview Lions Club is very active in assisting those in need in their community.

The day was full of amusing happenings which included the car show, parade, arts and crafts, bounce houses, a peddle car race for the kids and concessions. Also, the Town of Fairview held a greased pig contest which had everyone crowding around the hilarious spectacle.

This was the first year for the car show, but before it was halfway over there were more than 34 cars registered for the event.

The entertainment started soon after the parade and played through the day. Mark West and his group played some country classics, keeping residents fully entertained.

Vendors and organizations set up their tents along the sidewalk in hopes of educating the community about what they do and what they have to offer. Karma in Cullman was there promoting their Oct. 23 event, Dinner with the Dead, which will be held at Williams BBQ on the night of the season premiere of the popular show “The Walking Dead.”

The Fairview Youth Football Association threw up their tent full of Fairview Aggies paraphernalia. “We represent the youth football association and all of the merchandise we have for sale is to help support the youth,” Halie Ellis, treasurer of the association, said.

The 2016 Labor Day celebration was not only a free, pleasant event but also a great cause to come out and support. Next year, keep Fairview in mind when looking for an activity for the whole family.
