GOOD HOPE – Good Hope High School Head Football Coach Alan Scott is entering his second year at the helm of the Raiders and he has them ready to push toward the future.

“The Good Hope Raiders will be a team that is fairly young,” Scott told The Cullman Tribune. “We have seven seniors, five juniors and the rest are underclassmen, but they are fairly experienced.”

According to Scott, many underclassmen were forced into starting roles due to injury in the 2015 campaign. In the spring jamboree game vs. Addison, Good Hope started a combined 15 underclassmen on both sides of the ball.

“We are in an extremely tough region this fall, matching up with a state finalist, semifinalist and two quarterfinalists from the 2015 season,” said Scott of the upcoming season.

Wesley Kelly, Austin McDonald and Warren Creel are returning on the offensive line for the Raiders, with Matt Cofer in the backfield at running back. Scott is counting on many underclassmen to fill the remaining roles on offense.

Good Hope will start three seniors on the defensive side of the ball. Garrett Bagwell, Christian Echols and Matt Cofer.

“Our goal this year is to compete form snap to whistle on every play,” said Scott on the team’s ambitions for the season. “We understand the deck is stacked against us in our region, but we want to give maximum effort in order to allow us to be in games in the fourth quarter and have a shot at victory. We have several in-county games this year and would like to compete well against some great opponents.”
