You see, we’re a small church. We’re like a country church inside the city.”
Emily Sparks, pastor of Voice of Victory Church of God

CULLMAN – According to Emily Sparks, the Voice of Victory Church of God needs a little help from the community. She should know. She is the pastor of the little church on the northwest side of town. The congregation is searching for a piano player for their Sunday morning and evening worship services.

“I need someone that can help me with the music,” Sparks explained.

Sparks said that the church has had piano players in the past, but they didn’t work out. The current player only comes “every now and then.” There is a guitar player.

Voice of Victory may be a small church, but Sparks says it’s a place where “God saves, heals and still sets the captive free.”  As a matter of fact, it was literally her dream come true.

“I was a pastor at a church in Hanceville when the Lord gave me a dream of buying the building we are in now,” said Sparks. “I woke up arguing with the Lord. I said, ‘Lord, there’s no parking, do ya hear me? There’s no parking!’” she giggled.

“Well I drove around and thought, ’Well I guess there are more buildings out there.’ So I took it to my church; I let them vote. I wouldn’t let them raise their hands; they had to write their answers on a piece of paper. I needed 100 percent. I said, ‘Lord, just give me one person to say no.’ But He didn’t. We bought the building.

“We didn’t have but $3,000 in the bank, so I borrowed $13,000 against my car for the down payment,” she continued. “We paid that off the first year. We still owe on the church, but God still blessed it. We are up and down, but God is still in control,” she smiled. “We’ve been in that building for four years now. You see, we’re a small church. We’re like a country church inside the city.”

Sparks is a woman of deep faith and says she is sure that the Lord will send her church a piano player in time.
