Virginia Ann Graf Waddey was born July 7, 1944 in Cullman, Alabama to Mayme Adell Taylor Graf and Louis George Graf, Sr.

She passed away peacefully at home Wednesday, Aug. 5, 2020 after a two-month battle with a glioblastoma.

She is predeceased by her parents; her brother Louis George Graf, Jr. of Cullman, AL; his wife Dorothy Padgett Graf; and her daughter-in-law Melissa (Isse) Osesek Waddey.

She is survived by her sister Janet Arlene Graf Waldrop (Jess); her daughter Haylee Adele Waddey Hall (Currey); son Alexander Clinton Waddey; and grandchildren Hudsyn Adele Waddey, Briggs Clinton Waddey and Rex Clinton Waddey; nieces Luann Graf Reid (Dennis), Kitty Graf Warren (Perry), and Jessica Mayme Waldrop; and nephews Louis Dean Graf (Teresa) and Jason Louis Waldrop.

She attended Auburn University, University of Tennessee at Nashville Nursing School (Cum Laude), Trevecca Nazarene (Cum Laude) and The American College in Bryn Mawr, PA earning designations of Chartered Life Underwriter and Life Underwriter Training Counsel Fellow.  She sold Clinical Laboratory Supplies for six years, Insurance for 15 years and ended her career by fulfilling her passion of caring for others as a Registered Nurse at Centennial Medical Center.  After retiring in 2013, she worked part-time as a telephone nurse at Green Hills Pediatrics.

She was a lifelong gardener and Master Gardener, past President of Belmont Garden Club, former Stephen Minister at Westminster Presbyterian Church and member of Woodmont Christian Church. She loved living in Windsor Towers where she was a member of the Landscape Committee and donated numerous flowers and plants from her residence on Deer Park Circle. Her passion for growing and nurturing extended way beyond the garden.  She was a blessing for all those fortunate enough to know her. A kind, compassionate and loving woman, she provided so much to so many. Her laughter touched your soul. Her love touched your heart. She was the best neighbor, nurse, co-worker, friend, mother and Gia that anyone could ever ask for. She lived a life of joy and adhered to her motto of, “One Day at a Time.”

A small private service will be held for family and friends that will be available for viewing online (link will be posted on CaringBridge). In lieu of flowers for the family, please either spread joy by sending flowers to a loved one or plant something to celebrate her. Donations may be made in her memory to Harding Academy, Vanderbilt Ingram Cancer Center – Isse Waddey Fund for Colon Cancer (https://give.vanderbilthealth.org/isse) or the charity of your choice.
