CULLMAN, Ala. – Wissota Chophouse will close its Cullman restaurant Saturday, Sept. 26, after approximately 2.5 years in business, according to an announcement from the restaurant.
The restaurant, located inside Cobblestone Hotel & Suites at 1835 Main Ave. SW, did not provide a specific reason for the closure. Its announcement indicated, however, that plans are being developed to bring a different concept to the space.
“After much thought and consideration, we want to share that September 26, 2026 will be our last day of business,” the restaurant stated.
Wissota said all outstanding gift cards must be used by Sept. 26. The announcement did not indicate whether the cards could be redeemed at another Wissota location after the Cullman restaurant closes.
The restaurant said it believes the space presents an opportunity for something new that better fits the needs of its guests and the Cullman community.
“We’re looking forward to this next chapter and to bringing something exciting to the community,” the announcement stated. “Stay tuned! We’ll be making announcements about what’s coming to the space as plans develop.”
No details were released about the proposed replacement, including its name, ownership, type of restaurant or anticipated opening date. The announcement addressed only Wissota Chophouse and did not state that the adjoining Cobblestone Hotel & Suites is closing.
Wissota also thanked its Cullman employees for their work during the restaurant’s operation.
“The last couple of years have been filled with hard work, dedication, memories, and so many moments shared with our guests,” the restaurant stated. “We are incredibly grateful for everything our team has contributed and for the role they have played in making this place what it has been.”
The announcement did not disclose how many employees will be affected or whether members of the Wissota staff could be offered positions with the operation planned for the space.
Wissota Chophouse opened in February 2024 as part of the Cobblestone Hotel development. A ribbon-cutting ceremony for the hotel and restaurant was held March 28, 2024.
The Cullman location was Cobblestone’s first hotel in Alabama, while Wissota was described at the time as the restaurant brand’s ninth location overall and its second outside Wisconsin. The Cullman property was also the first partnership between the Cobblestone Hotel & Suites and Wissota Chophouse brands.
The 63-room hotel-and-restaurant development was announced in August 2022 and was projected as an approximately $8.8 million investment employing at least 22 people.
The City of Cullman received a $150,000 Community Development Block Grant for infrastructure supporting the development, including a turning lane along Main Avenue and a new access road. The city committed an additional $30,250 toward those improvements.
In an August 2025 Tribune restaurant profile, then-General Manager Karli Duncan said one of the Cullman location’s greatest challenges had been becoming part of residents’ established dining routines. At the time, Duncan said the restaurant had made significant progress in its efficiency and team development.
The restaurant’s final announcement thanked customers for dining at Wissota, holding celebrations at the restaurant and supporting the business.
“Come see us before September 26 and help us make this final week one to remember,” the announcement stated.l
