CULLMAN, Ala. – Along with the return of high school football this Friday, the Cullman-area’s youth football league, which consists of nine local teams, is set to kick off on Saturday morning.
On getting the season underway, Parker Black, head coach of Fairview’s WeeWee division team, said, “We’re very excited to get this season going. The kids are eager to play and get better each day we practice. I stress to the kids the relation to football and life. There’s no other sport like football, it’s a sport of true brotherhood and commitment to someone else other than yourself.” He added, “You have to give your absolute best because the guy next to you is depending on you. Just like when these little boys are grown men with families. You’ve got someone depending on you and you have to do your very best to support them.”
The regular season will conclude on October 17, with the first round of league playoffs taking place a week later on October 24, followed by the cheer-off and championship games on November 7.
On expectations for this year, Vinemont’s PeeWee coach, Cody Harris, said, “We expect it to be competitive, but our biggest goal doesn’t change. We want every player to leave the season a better young man than he was on the first day. Winning matters, but if we can help them become better future fathers, husbands, and members of their community, then we’ve done our job.”
