CULLMAN, Ala. – The Cullman County Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) organization is looking for volunteers to serve locally.

Case Manager Alyson Miley said they are always looking to bring on new volunteers.

“Imagine being a child forced to pack your life into a trash bag, not because you did anything wrong, but because the adults in your life couldn’t keep you safe,” Miley said. “Our mission is not only to advocate for children in our community, but also to educate and raise awareness. Organizations, churches, clubs and community groups interested in learning more or scheduling a speaker can contact me by email.”

Miley said they welcome volunteers and gratefully accept monetary donations to help meet children’s needs, including school supplies, gifts, hygiene products and other essentials.

“Upon completion of training, volunteers are sworn in by the Honorable Judge Rusty Turner and become advocates within the judicial process for children who have experienced abuse or neglect,” Miley said. “Our volunteers are committed to ensuring every child’s voice is heard, their needs are addressed and their best interests remain the priority. Most importantly, we work to help each child find a safe, permanent and supportive home where they can heal, grow and thrive.”

Most recently, Cullman County CASA added on three new volunteers: Jackie Wylie, Yuliya Peterson and Sarah Williams.

“These dedicated individuals have chosen to stand up, speak out and advocate for children in our community,” Miley said. “We are grateful for their commitment to making a difference in the lives of children who need a voice.”

Individuals interested in becoming a CASA volunteer can email Cullmancountycasa@msn.com to receive an application.

Applicants complete background checks, interviews and reference checks before beginning a four-week training program, meeting once weekly.
