HANCEVILLE, Ala. — The Hanceville City Council at its meeting on July 9 approved several appointments, funding requests and community initiatives. These included the approval of a long-discussed rezoning ordinance and the relocation of the city’s food pantry.

The council nominated Teja McIntyre to serve as city clerk. An official employment offer will be extended to McIntyre in the coming days. McIntyre will replace former clerk Tania Wilcox, who resigned earlier in the summer.

Council members also approved a recommendation from the Hanceville Historical Preservation Commission to appoint Garret Gilliland to Place 6, filling the commission’s current vacancy.

The council approved payment of the Cullman County Commission invoice for the Cullman County Sheriff’s Office. It also approved the donation of three motors to the Cullman County Coroner’s Office.

The council approved a $500 appropriation for locks and keys for the Hanceville Public Library. Before the vote, Councilman Robert Powell noted that the city is nearing the end of its current fiscal year and suggested a larger allocation could be considered during the next budget cycle.

Council members also approved relocating the city’s food pantry from Bangor Street to the Hanceville Civic Center to make it more accessible for stocking and serving the community.

Under old business, the council adopted Ordinance 2026-10, rezoning property on Elm Street from R-1 to R-2, with the agreement that a passing lane will be added.

Looking ahead, Hanceville’s America 250 celebration will be held July 25 from noon-9 p.m. at

C.W. Day Park. The event will feature food trucks, vendors, live music, free pool access and other family-friendly activities. Fireworks are scheduled to begin at 8:45 p.m.

The next Hanceville City Council meeting will be held Thursday, July 23 at 6 p.m., immediately following the work session, at Hanceville City Hall.
