HANCEVILLE, Ala. – The Shirley Burden Public Library in Hanceville recently hired a new librarian as part of its staff. Library Manager Teresa Rivera said the staff was excited to welcome fun new librarian Beth Ellis.
“She is full of ideas, bringing new energy to the Hanceville Library,” Rivera said. “She comes with library experience from California. She will be part of our summer reading programs as well.”
Ellis said her love of libraries started early at her school library with Laura Ingalls Wilder and the “Little House on the Prairie” series.
“In high school, I read through most of the classics section and explored other genres as well,” Ellis said. “I worked for the Eldorado County Library System in California, first as a book shelver, then at the checkout desk and finally as the bookmobile driver. I feel extremely fortunate to be working at the Shirley Burden Public Library in Hanceville. I moved to Alabama from Oregon three years ago to be closer to two of my three sons and eight of my nine grandchildren.”
Upcoming summer reading program events include:
- Wednesday, June 10, 10 a.m. “Birds’ Beaks – Amazing Adaptations” presented by Kerri Roberts, Cullman Extension 4-H
- Wednesday, June 17, 10 a.m.-noon Snead’s Farmhouse with animals and an outstanding presentation
