CULLMAN, Ala. – The Miss Alabama Strawberry Festival Pageant continues to play a key role in one of Cullman’s most anticipated annual events. This year’s pageant was held Saturday, April 12, at the Desperation Church Student Center. Fairview High School’s Brooklyn Merriman took home the crown.

The pageant has been part of the festival for decades. While it was once held during festival weekend, organizers now host it in advance so Miss Alabama Strawberry Festival can take part in festival activities.

As the Strawberry Festival has grown throughout the years, so has the pageant.

“I think it’s a great local pageant,” Cullman Parks, Recreation & Sports Tourism Program Coordinator Jamie Kirk said. “Now that we’ve expanded to the Alabama Strawberry Festival, we have participants from all over Alabama.”

The pageant It includes nine age divisions, beginning with infants and continuing through 12th grade. Miss Alabama Strawberry Festival is crowned from the 10th-12th grade category and serves as an ambassador for the festival. In that role, she attends the festival, participates in activities and is available for photos with attendees. She is also invited to represent the festival at other community events throughout the year, including Oktoberfest and the Christkindlmarkt.

The Alabama Strawberry Festival will take place April 24-25 at Depot Park. Learn more at www.alabamastrawberryfest.com.
