CULLMAN, Ala. – The Uniform Initiative, next to Monograms Plus, was created to serve the area’s growing medical community and anyone looking for stylish, practical workwear. Stephanie King, who worked in health care for over 30 years, said she opened the store because she wanted a new challenge but still wanted to help meet the needs she saw during her career.
“I knew there was a need in the community, and I just started exploring options and just dove in headfirst,” King said.
The shop mainly sells medical scrubs, but King pointed out that many different professionals can wear them.
“The target audience currently is the medical community… or anyone in general who just wears scrubs,” King said. “You don’t have to be a medical person to necessarily wear scrubs.”
Besides everyday workwear, The Uniform Initiative wants to support local health care workers with special promotions and partnerships. King also said the store will offer unique brands and styles that aren’t usually available nearby. “I do think we have some unique brands that are not found anywhere locally. We have some styles that you probably haven’t seen very frequently.”
King said that offering more choices for men is important to her.
“I want to emphasize that we do have things for men as well,” King said. “I think the men have been underserved in the scrub medical community.” The shop will also take special orders for customers who need certain styles or sizes that aren’t in stock. “I can order anything that you need,” she said, adding that she wants to give local shoppers flexible options.
The store will celebrate its grand opening on May 7 at 1 p.m. with a ribbon-cutting ceremony.
“We just want you to come in and see what we’re all about,” King said. “Just come in, relax and look around. We’d love to see you.”
The store is located at 802 Main Ave. NE Ste. B in Cullman.
