Cullman Swim Association wraps up competitive season after pair competes at NCSA championships

CULLMAN, Ala. – The Cullman Swim Association (CSA) wrapped up their competitive swim season at the end of March after participating in meets held in Huntsville, Madison, Birmingham, Nashville, Atlanta and Orlando. The USA short course swim team has trained and put in long hours from September to March and put Cullman on the map with their outstanding results under the guidance of head coach Carson Glasscock and assistant coaches Charis Peek and Maddie Long. Our championship meets include the following: 

The Region 3 Championship for the 10 & unders was held in Birmingham in February at the Crossplex. Cullman’s own Emri Lackey was the high point winner for the girls 8 & under with 58 points. Notable top 8 individual finishes include:

Girls 8 & Under

Emri Lackey: 1st place 100 IM, 1st place 50 breaststroke, 2nd place 25 back, 2nd place 25 free, 2nd place 50 back, 2nd place 50 fly, 3rd place 25 fly and 3rd place 25 breaststroke

Amellia Powell: 3rd place 50 breaststroke, 7th place 50 free, 8th place 25 fly and 8th place 25 back

Boys 10 & Under

Guy Caffey: 1st place 200 free, 1st place 100 breaststroke, 2nd place 50 breaststroke, 5th place 100 IM, 6th place 50 free and 8th place 50 fly 

Girls 10 & Under

Brooklyn Pate: 3rd place 200 free and 5th place 100 fly 

Thirteen swimmers with qualifying times represented CSA in Swim Atlanta’s Best of the South Championship Swim Meet. Top 16 finishes include: 

Boys 10 & Under

Guy Caffey: 4th place 50 breaststroke, 5th place 100 free, 6th place 100 breaststroke, 6th place 200 free, 7th place 100 IM and 10th place 50 free

Abram Lackey: 2nd place 50 back, 2nd place 50 free, 2nd place 100 back, 3rd place 100 IM, 3rd place 100 free, 4th place 200 free, 4th place 200 IM and 4th place 50 fly 

Girls 10 & Under 

Hannah Thigpen: 13th place 50 back and 15th place 100 back

Boys 13-14

Briar Lackey: 13th place 50 free

Ten swimmers with qualifying times represented CSA in the Southeastern Winter Short Course Championships held in Huntsville. This meet includes qualifiers from all USAS teams in Tennessee, Alabama, and northern Florida. Top 16 finishes for CSA include: 

Boys 10 & Under

Guy Caffey: 3rd place 200 free, 4th place 50 breaststroke, 5th place 100 free, 8th place 50 free and 9th place 100 IM 

Abram Lackey: 1st place 200 IM, 2nd place 50 back, 2nd place 50 fly, 3rd place 50 free, 3rd place 100 back and 3rd place 100 IM

Girls 11-12

Lauren Hughes: 5th place 50 breaststroke, 9th place 100 breaststroke and 16th place 100 IM 

Boys 13-14

Briar Lackey: 13th place 100 free, 15th place 50 back and 16th place 50 free  

Girls 15 & Over

Edie Hudson: 11th place 50 breaststroke 

Only 2 CSA swimmers qualified for the NCSA Age Group Swimming Championships held in Orlando, FL at the Rosen Aquatic Center where Olympic legends such as Katie Ledecky and Michael Phelps continue to hold records. Georgia Dowdy made qualifying times in the 50, 100, and 200 backstroke. Lauren Hughes made qualifying times in the 50 breaststroke, 50 fly, 100 breaststroke, and 100 IM. Both girls enjoyed swimming against other elite swimmers from all over the United States.

All CSA swimmers are looking forward to celebrating a successful season with these outstanding accomplishments at their annual swim banquet held in April.
