Spring is here, and with the warm weather and spring blooms comes the urge to redecorate! Before you take everything from last season to the trash can – reconsider the opportunity. I know craft and more stores promise a “new” opportunity, but know your decorations don’t always have to be what is labeled as the next best thing.
Take this dining table setup for example. The main attraction is the bouquet. It allows the pop of color that can work for both fall and spring. While it is bright, the cream tablecloth and oak chairs give it structure. The bouquet was given to me by my husband on our wedding day and I have kept it for a display. This allows for more of an emotional connection that I wouldn’t have had for something I bought for myself. The basket takes it away from the traditional style and gives opportunity for a more rustic look.
The metal basket was actually given to us with household items inside such as soaps and other daily essentials. While there wasn’t space to keep the basket with those items in their designated areas, it allowed great balance on our table. So now we have several elements in one spot: wood, metal, floral and cotton.
The only items on the table bought new are the candles and the “W.” The placemats, tablecloth, dining table and plate were all thrifted. The things I thrifted were all a part of a general image and the gift items helped tie them together. The easiest way to decorate is by combining the things you like and are special to you!
While retail stores offer what is trending, those items will likely end up in the thrift store within a handful of months by someone who follows them. If you’re patient – you will find them! This spring, try to use the items you already have and adore.
