HOLLY POND, Ala. – The Holly Pond Town Council at its meeting Monday, March 2, addressed upgrades at Governor’s Park, upcoming events and more.

In old business, Mayor Carla Hart discussed four new picnic tables for Governor’s Park. She informed the council that the shipping for these items is free, and they should arrive the second or third week of March.

She asked the council if they thought it best to have concrete pads poured where these four tables will be placed. “This is so the ground doesn’t get worn in from use and swinging feet stirring up dirt,” she said.

Councilman Dwight Kidd responded, “I think that’s a great idea.” Though he also made a point to mention that it would require proper upkeep.

Councilwoman Deborah Holcomb made a motion to approve the concrete pads, which was seconded by Councilman Ricky Carr. All members voted in favor.

“Governor’s Park bathrooms are 98% complete, I’d say,” Hart advised. “The air conditioning and plumbing are finished; we’re just waiting on sod and asphalt to be done.”

Hart, on the topic of renovations, stated that the fencing along the curb of Finley Circle should start at the end of this week or into next week.

“Gas and utility lines have been located so we’re safe there,” she assured.

The council then addressed Resolution No. 260302-2, which states that if the Rebuild Alabama Act funds to repair and pave Lee Road and Daniel Road are awarded, the engineering fee or matching fee cannot exceed $75,000. There will be a required public hearing at the next meeting in order to proceed with an approval.

Carr and Kidd were selected to be alternate voting delegates going forward. This allows them to vote at the Alabama League of Municipalities annual convention business meeting. Hart is the first delegate.

The council approved the purchase of a new computer for $1,200 for the Guy Hunt Library. A total of three are needed, but Cullman County Public Library System Director Amber Thornton stated the CCPLS will purchase the other two. All council members approved this purchase.

On to the festivities! First on the list will be the Holly Pond Easter event. Hart pitched the idea of an event for Saturday, April 4, 2026, from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. The specifics will be confirmed before the next meeting.

On Saturday, May 9, 2026, the Holly Pond band will hold its annual “Pops in the Park,” which will begin at 3 p.m. and last until dark.

Lastly, the town’s America 250 celebration was discussed. A decision was made to have the gathering in the ballpark area on Friday, July 3, 2026, from 5-7 p.m.

“It’ll be a good ole fashion gathering,” Hart said.

The next Holly Pond Town Council meeting will be held at Holly Pond High School on Monday, April 6, 2026, at 6 p.m.
