CULLMAN, Ala. – The North Alabama Agriplex said it is excited to host an expert panel of presenters on March 20, 2026, from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. The Organic Growing Workshop will teach small growers, backyard gardeners and the general public how to garden using natural techniques.

This workshop will focus on building a thriving garden ecosystem using natural, sustainable methods. The Agriplex, partnering with the Alabama Cooperative Extension System, will replicate a similar workshop that has been offered at Jones Valley Teaching Farm in Birmingham and an Organic Gardening Vegetable Workshop back in 2020 at the Agriplex.

“Do you struggle to control pests in the garden? Do your tomatoes not produce as much as you want? Are you tired of watering your gardens or fields in the hot, dry August? Which varieties of vegetables, grains, herbs and flowers do best in our humid, wet or dry climate of Alabama? We will address all of these topics and so much more!  Don’t miss this awesome day in Cullman, Alabama! Your farm or garden needs you to attend!” said a media release from the Agriplex.

The following topics will be covered, with experts in each area:

    • Organic Definitions and Overview – Holt Akers-Campbell
    • Soil Management – Dr. Charlie Mitchell
    • Irrigation and Liquid Fertilizers – Bronson Lubresky
    • Organic Variety Trial Results – Sara Paz and Luan Alves
    • Organic Pest Management – Dr. Clement Akotsen-Mensah

Lunch and snacks will be provided.

The workshop will be held Friday, March 20, 2026, from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. at the North Alabama Agriplex Heritage Center, 1714 Tally Ho St, Cullman. Seeds, resources and door prizes will be given out.

A $30 registration is required at www.agriplex.org, where scholarships are also available.
