Cullman police officer charged with domestic violence

CULLMAN, Ala. – Cullman Police Department Officer Roy Leon Bates, 52, is facing a third-degree domestic violence charge.

According to Police Chief Joey Duncan, officers were dispatched to a home on Scenic Drive on Monday, Feb. 16, 2026, at approximately 6:45 p.m.

“An investigation was conducted, and based on the evidence observed, probable cause was established,” Duncan said. 

Bates is charged with third-degree domestic violence. He was transported to the Morgan County Jail.

Bates is employed with the CPD as a lake patrol officer. 

“He has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of an internal investigation,” Duncan said.
