GOOD HOPE, Ala.- The no. 4-ranked Good Hope Lady Raiders will host their respective area tournament after defeating East Lawrence on Tuesday, and they looked to finish off their area schedule undefeated at home against no. 8-ranked West Morgan on Thursday night. Good Hope jumped out to an early lead, and then stretched it to double-digits at the half. They widened it to 20 to start out the third quarter, and the Lady Raiders would go on to defeat West Morgan, 53-38.
Neither team scored a point for almost two minutes before Ella Davis broke that up with a free throw. Lucie Adams hit a reverse layup, then a steal by Ella Gossett turned into a layup by Lexi Marshall to give Good Hope a 5-0 lead. Sophie Konrad took over after that, as she scored the next 11 points for the Lady Raiders to make it a 16-4 game late in the first quarter. The Lady Rebels went on a mini 5-0 run to end the first quarter, as that cut it to 16-9 going into the second quarter.
West Morgan scored through a foul and ended up hitting the free throw to make it a 16-12 game early in the second. Layups by Konrad and Gossett put Good Hope ahead, 20-12. The Lady Rebels would cut it to 21-15 with 3:49 remaining in the first half. Konrad drilled a pair of free throws and later added a layup to give the Lady Raiders a 25-16 lead. Gossett drained a three from the left corner, and Gabby Richter added a basket down low to make it a 30-18 game at the half.
Good Hope carried that momentum over into the third period. Marshall scored seven of the first nine points for the Lady Raiders, and Davis put in a basket of her own in the paint to widen their lead to 39-18. West Morgan, though, went on a 7-0 run to make it a 39-25 game. Konrad knocked down a basket down low, and Gossett dropped in a floater to put Good Hope on top, 43-27. The Lady Raiders would take a 43-29 lead into the final quarter.
Gossett knocked down another floater, and Konrad put in two more free throws to increase Good Hope’s lead to 47-29. Adams buried a three from the left wing to make it a 50-29 game. Another 7-0 run by the Lady Rebels cut it to 50-36, but Konrad stopped their run with a three from the left wing, as that gave the Lady Raiders a 53-36 lead. Good Hope (18-4) would go on to knock off West Morgan, 53-38, as they finish off their area schedule with a perfect 6-0 record.
Konrad finished with a game-high 24 points for the Lady Raiders. Gossett added 10 points, and Marshall ended up with nine points.
Good Hope will now turn their attention to next week’s Cullman County Basketball Tournament. They are the no. 3 seed in this year’s tournament, and they will take on the no. 6 seed, the Holly Pond Lady Broncos, next Tuesday at 4 p.m.
