CULLMAN, Ala. – The sixth annual Kicking Cancer in Cullman line dance workshop and social will take place Saturday, Oct. 25, from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. at The Active Adult Center. The event welcomes dancers of all experience levels, from beginners to intermediates. Preregistration has closed, but admission will be available at the door for $25.

All proceeds from the event will directly benefit Cullman County Bosom Buddies, a local nonprofit that provides support and resources for individuals facing breast cancer. Following the success of the event, a total donation check will be presented to Bosom Buddies at a later date.

The workshop will include a 30-minute lunch break and participants are asked to wear gym or dance shoes only — no boots or street shoes will be allowed on the gym floor. Water and snacks will be provided throughout the day.

This year’s event features four dance instructors, all of whom are breast cancer survivors: Jackie Talley, Helen Woods, Patra Bowman and Sherry Boatright. Together, they’ll teach a variety of new dances and revisit familiar classics in what has become one of Cullman’s more popular charity events.

Boatright, who has been a line dance instructor for 16 years and a breast cancer survivor for 22, shared why the event holds such a deep personal meaning to her, “Bosom Buddies was there for me when I needed them and I love line dancing,” Boatright shared. “It’s an amazing feeling to be able to give something back — not only that, but it’s also incredible to see 100 dancers on the floor at the same time.”

With 106 dancers already preregistered, Boatright shared her excitement for a full day of kicking and dancing. “We’re looking forward to a fun day of dancing, with more than 100 dances requested,” she said.
