CULLMAN, Ala. – As has been its long-standing Oktoberfest tradition, the Sacred Heart Altar Society is gearing up to offer its traditional German Dinner on Wednesday, Oct. 1, from 4-7 p.m. in the Family Life Center at the church.
This year, as in the past, the dinner will feature a menu of bratwurst, German potato salad, sauerkraut, green beans, applesauce, bread and a homemade dessert. Many of the recipes used have been passed down from generation to generation according to Pat Arentz, who heads up the dinner for the Altar Society.
The meat used in the dinner comes from Brickyard Meats in Cullman, which is owned by a family of Sacred Heart parishioners.
“This is a huge undertaking for us, but it comes with great rewards,” said Arentz. “Our church members, old and young, show up to help with clean up, serving, cooking and peeling potatoes and preparing delicious desserts. We could not do this without our volunteers. It’s really a community effort here at Sacred Heart.”
Dinners are $15 a plate and are available for dining in or drive through/take out. Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church is located at 205 Third Ave. SE in downtown Cullman.
