DOUBLE SPRINGS, Ala. – After taking their season opener over Lynn last week, the Meek Tigers hit the road for a local matchup against Winston County Friday night. This game was a tale of two halves for the Tigers. They trailed just 16-14 at halftime but the Yellow Jackets outscored them 30-8 in the second half to pull away with a 46-22 win.

Winston County scored on its opening drive to take an early 8-0 lead, but the Tigers responded on the ensuing possession when quarterback Evan McCay hit Ethan Miles for a 20-yard touchdown, trimming the lead to 8-6 with two minutes remaining in the first quarter. After another Yellow Jackets touchdown stretched the lead to 16-6, McCay found Jaxon Brown down field for a 30-yard touchdown to make it a 16-14 game going into the halftime break

Unfortunately for Tiger fans, the second half was dominated by Winston County. The Yellow Jackets scored 30 unanswered points to pull ahead 46-14 early in the fourth quarter. Hunter Wyatt broke free for a 35-yard touchdown run to trim the lead to 46-22 but the Tigers couldn’t get any closer than that and Winston County handed Meek its first loss of the season.

The Tigers (1-1) will kick off region play against Hackleburg next week.
